Parking Lot Art Fair

March 23, 2015, San Francisco, CA – The Parking Lot Art Fair is pleased to announce its inaugural event, taking place in a parking lot in San Francisco on Saturday, May 2nd from 6 AM to 1 PM. On this Saturday morning over 60 artists will converge on a parking lot in San Francisco, not far from the stART Up Art Fair and Art Market, and set up their own independent projects to form the Parking Lot Art Fair. The Parking Lot Art Fair is a renegade, DIY, artist-driven fair/happening. This fair will ask for no entrance fee for participants or patrons, and take no percentage of artist profits. The location of this art fair will be announced the evening before the fair through Parking Lot Art Fair’s social media channels. 

San Francisco has a history of attracting critical and diverse voices, and the Parking Lot Art Fair celebrates this spirit by providing artists a platform to exhibit their work to a wide audience of morning joggers, avid fair goers, and public space users. This fair will provide a space for diverse artistic practices, from tailgating performances to white cube exhibition spaces, the Parking Lot Art Fair presents a democratic platform for any and all artists of San Francisco. There will also be a panel discussion led by writer, curator, and artist advocate Glen Helfandto include John Zarobell and others to be announced.

Parking Lot Art Fair is founded by San Francisco based artist and curator Jenny SharafIn addition to a strong studio practice, Sharaf’s recent curatorial projects include the Mission billboard art takeover Way Out West, The Lab’s successful 24-Hour Telethon fundraising event, and an upcoming exhibit Super Contemporary at Creativity Explored, opening April 30th.

Emily Ebba Reynolds is a San Francisco based curator, serving as the fair’s Program Director. Reynolds is a co-director and curator at Bass & Reiner Gallery, and the Marketing and Communications Coordinator at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts.

Parking Lot Art Fair’s organizers and participants believe that the event will provide a much needed counterpoint to the other art fairs of the Bay Area, one that is more in line with the artists’ practices.  This is not a market driven event and is a true experiment of what can be done with zero budget and a group of talented creatives.
